Cross Border Dinner Shenzhen Oct 2026: Discussions and Recap

Had a great time with old and new friends at the GFAVIP Shenzhen cross border dinner on Thursday evening, Oct 22, 2026, to talk about cross border business, ecommerce, and general business development and relationships.

It was a great group of people from both in China and overseas and around the world.

Some of the topics I had discussed were:

Economy is in a challenging state, both in China and around the world. Many didn't expect these wars to happen just a couple of years ago. We are all adjusting.

Margins, competitor pressures on Amazon: many selling on Amazon are complaining of the fees, the costs, the challenges, combined with other sellers creating pricing wars. If you can find a niche that is safe from heavy competition, you're blessed.

AI and regulations: many Chinese smart AI products are being blocked in Western markets such as the USA and other places. Many think it will continue to go in that direction instead of less.

Africa, Russia markets booming with China: a few are doing huge volumes of wholesale and B2B business to Russia and Africa, saying Africa is the future and it is growing non-stop.

Robotics is the clear growth, but the regulation is the wild card. It's clear the merger of AI, software, and hardware will come together in all industries, but the tricky part is how to play your cards.

TikTok is a must, but managing the IP, location, finding influencers. Some are growing into Thailand, Southeast Asia and overseas markets. Yet account bans, geo IP issues, and finding and scaling local influencers are common issues.

Innovation is the saviour. We need to keep innovating. Bringing out new and unique ideas to the market feels like the best way.
